Corrida Verde – Macaneta no Pé: A Celebration of Sports, Eco-Tourism & Sustainability at Macaneta Beach Eco Resort

On August 2nd, 2025, the shores of Macaneta Beach in Mozambique came alive with the energy of runners, music, and celebration as the Corrida Verde – Macaneta no Pé (Green Run) reached its finish line at Macaneta Beach Eco Resort.

This unique 10 km race was organized by Moz no Pé in partnership with Sportivus, and it showcased the perfect connection between sports, eco-tourism, and environmental awareness. Under the inspiring motto “Run, Breathe, and Preserve”, participants ran from the historic village of Marracuene to the scenic sands of Macaneta Beach — a route that highlights Mozambique’s breathtaking landscapes and the importance of sustainable living.

A Sustainable Finish Line at Macaneta Beach Eco Resort

The Macaneta Beach Eco Resort was selected as the host for the finish line thanks to its commitment to sustainable tourism in Mozambique and the presence of its on-site Eco Center, which plays a vital role in preserving the surrounding Macaneta environment.

As runners crossed the finish line, they were welcomed by the sounds of traditional drums and local community dances, creating a celebration of culture and connection. To rehydrate and refuel, participants enjoyed fresh coconut water and a healthy breakfast prepared by the resort’s catering team, using local flavors and ingredients.

The celebrations then moved to the resort’s newly upgraded beachfront event venue, where a prize-giving ceremony recognized the runners’ achievements. This was followed by a fun-filled Zumba class on the beach deck overlooking the ocean — the perfect blend of fitness, wellness, and coastal beauty.

Eco-Tourism Meets Environmental Awareness

One of the highlights of the day was a guided visit to the resort’s Eco Center in Macaneta, where participants learned about ongoing initiatives to protect coastal ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and inspire sustainable travel practices. The tour offered visitors a deeper understanding of how eco-tourism in Mozambique can support both the environment and local communities.

Partnerships for a Greener Future

The success of the Corrida Verde – Macaneta no Pé was made possible thanks to the support of several partners, including the Marracuene Municipal Council, Elephant Bet, and local organizations committed to sustainability.

Speaking at the event, Nikita Ambaramo of Macaneta Beach Eco Resort said:

“We are honored to host the finish line of the Corrida Verde – Macaneta no Pé, a powerful initiative that is so much more than a race. This event celebrates the spirit of movement, the magic of eco-tourism, and the urgent importance of preserving our natural environment. To all the runners, congratulations on completing this journey and for showing your support for a more sustainable future.”

Looking Ahead: Sport & Tourism for Sustainability in Mozambique

Macaneta Beach Eco Resort is proud to have been part of this initiative and looks forward to future collaborations with Moz no Pé. Together, the goal is to continue using sport and tourism as platforms for sustainability and as supporters of a greener, healthier world.

For participants and visitors, the Green Run was more than just an event, it was a chance to experience eco-tourism in Mozambique, celebrate local culture, and commit to protecting the natural beauty of Macaneta for generations to come.

🌍 Let’s keep moving, breathing, and preserving — together.
